[NMCAVER] NSS Director Elections

Hello All,

You should have recieved your NSS Director Candidate ballots in the mail by now.  There are eight people running and their platforms are listed at http://www.caves.org/committee/nominating/2008%20Platforms.pdf.  You will find NM caver Jennifer Foote included.  Last year only about 15% of the NSS membership actually voted.  I think this is really a poor showing if you call yourself a caver.

Why? Because we (the NSS) are spending thousands of dollars to print and mail the ballots.  This is your dues money.

This year the line item costs are:

      Nominating Committee 2,847.73  BOG Ballots-Printing/Mailhouse fee 
      Nominating Committee 1,650.27  Domestic Postage 
      Nominating Committee 148.00  Canada/Mexico Postage 
      Nominating Committee 278.20  European Postage 


If the NSS is spending thousands of dollars to create a fair election, you can take a moment to read the platforms of those offering to spend hundreds of dollars of their own money each year going to Board of Governors meetings to represent you.  Then you can spend a whole stamp and mail and mail in the ballot.  Last year a whole 22 people (10.53%) of the NM NSS members voted. Please, please, take the time.  After all, I am one of the few folks in the NSS that has a budget and you would want Directors you elect to make sure I am administering NSS money correctly.
