[NMCAVER] Classic Karst Tour

Update in plans for our Croatia and Slovenia Classic Karst tour in September, 2008

We (Dwight and Mary Deal) have been out of town for the past month and are just now firming up plans for the trip. This is not a caving expedition but a tourist trip that emphasizes karst geology and hydrology and does get into caves.  It is similar to an extended NSS Convention geology field trip.  We will learn a lot about the classic karst of the Julian Alps, the evolution of the scientific study of karst geology and hydrology, and visit spectacular caves and associated karst scenery.   We will include optional visits to easy but spectacular wild caves.  

We will also have memorable cultural experiences as we travel across this historic countryside – visiting castles (one in a cave entrance), medieval villages, and welcoming warm beaches with crystal water.  Options will be available for part of the group to visit more cultural aspects of the region with Mary while the hard-core cave and karst folks are with Dwight.  Make suggestions now and we can tailor the trip to better fit your desires. We plan to depart in early September.  Flight schedules are undergoing revisions, and air fares are lower after September 7, 2008.   We are tentatively looking at a 2 week trip starting about then with the option to extend travel at the end.
