Hi all!
Kathy and I just went to see the movie "Astronaut Farmer" starring
Billy Bob Thornton. The movie is OK, but makes it worth mentioning
to NM cavers is that it was filmed in New Mexico, with many scenes
obviously filmed in the GypKaP area.
The movie is supposed to take place in Texas, but anyone familiar
with Texas and New Mexico geography will quickly see that it's not
Texas. Several scenes take place in a town called "Story". It looks
familiar but I couldn't quite place it. Perhaps someone else will.
The Gallinas Mountains outside of Corona are quite prominent in
several scenes, as well as White Sands and the cliffs in the Abiquiu
area.
The credits say that the movie was filmed in New Mexico. However
there are a few desert scenes that I think were filmed in California,
or perhaps Arizona, as there are Joshua Trees in the background,
which don't exist in New Mexico.

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things
you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines,
Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in you sails.
Explore. Dream. Discover."
attributed to Mark Twain, but no record exists of his having
written this.
