The Crisis of SPAET Cave (update)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------

Dear colleagues,

News of the "Crisis of SPAET Cave" has spread through the international
cave and karst community. The swelling response has far surpassed
expectations. Interest has come from Australia, Belgium, Croatia, the Czech
Republic, the Dominican Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy,
Japan, Mexico, Montenegro, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania,
Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the USA. A
small sampling of letters sent to our government will be posted shortly on
the "Crisis of SPAET Cave" web site.

The extraordinary reach of the cave and karst community has impressed many
First Nations people who so value SPAET Cave, spiritually and culturally.
They are approving and appreciative of the global effort. It looks as if
government has not taken any action to protect SPAET Cave during the
holidays. This hiatus may have left the cave at great risk. The condition
of the cave cannot be established straightforwardly because access is
restricted or not allowed by professional security services.

When the condition of the cave is established it will be reported on the
"Crisis of SPAET Cave" web site, so please check the web site for periodic
updates: <http://members.crcable.net/pumpkinpatch>

send copies of your letters! All parties recognize that successful
protection of SPAET Cave cannot be achieved in a void. So again, thanks to
everyone who voiced support for protection of this unique and unusual cave!

Sincerely,
Paul Griffiths
Canada

P.S. A web page dedicated to the SPAET affair, with varied links and
references to the sacred cave, has been mounted in Germany. Here is the
